Doctor of Medicine
Dr Niero undertook further studies to obtain a Doctorate of Medicine in prostate cancer research. This was a project involved the study of the effects and interaction of the immune system with prostate cancer. He undertook this at The University of Melbourne, Austin Health and Ludwig Institute of Cancer Research under the supervision of Professor Ian Davis and Professor Damien Bolton. For his efforts, he was supported by numerous scholarships from The University of Melbourne as well as the prestigious scholarship from the Cancer Research Institute.
The study was able to demonstrate how the immune cells interact with cancer cells and the how the local tumour microenvironment is constant battle between cancer killing and cancer protective cells. This research led to numerous local and international presentations and was awarded his Doctorate in 2014.

Publications
Dr Niero has published numerous book chapters and journal articles. He has published on a variety of topics including prostate, kidney and bladder cancers as well as on robotic surgery. He is reviewer for journals including The Journal of Urology and World Journal of Urology.
